I went to New York with two of my college friends on Thursday to visit some Penn Staters who were staying at Columbia for Spring Break. It was initially a very simple trip. I wanted to get on a bus and head to New York for a couple of hours. The night prior to leaving, however, we decided that it would be more fun to drive to New York ourselves. Of course by the time we got to Manhattan we wanted to stay for the night. That got really hectic because the two guys I was traveling with were "not really in New York" to begin with. We spent several hours trying to make up excuses to tell our family. I got off pretty easily with a "do whatever you want with your life." We ended up staying at NYU after having some sake at a Japanese restaurant and drinking in a dorm room. New York bars and liquor shops do not ID minors.
On our trip we visited Alice's Teacup. It was a beautiful Alice in Wonderland themed teashop. Roses hung from the ceiling of the bathroom. The walls were covered with paintings and quotes from Alice in Wonderland. "Off with her head," said one wall. I ordered Berry Bunch Fruit Tisane tea and rose petal ice cream. The tea was $6.00 for three cups, but an entire teapot was supplied. The guys were not too thrilled about drinking and eating flowers, but they survived the hibiscus and rose. The place may have been a little pricey, but worth every penny. If I had been with my close girlfriends, the teashop would have been the perfect place to spend the day.
We spent a lot of time at Alice's trying to make phone calls to our parents. When we thought that the overnight plan at New York may have failed, I tried to brighten the day by ordering a Lemon Drop. I thought that if I had ordered a lemon drop and quickly asked for some scones along with it, the waitress would get distracted and forget to card me. She did not forget. To save myself from embarrassment, I quickly ignored her request for my ID and asked her about the selections of ice cream. That is how I canceled my order of scones and lemon drop and changed it to some sort of pink flowery ice cream.
